Chapter 29 — The Encaoua in the tree: documented data

Bernard Bensaïd's tree makes it possible to document with certainty the presence of the Encaoua lineage in Tlemcen since 1733.

29.1 The Talmasan (Tlemcen) branch

The earliest point of entry is Ephraïm Daniel Encaoua, born in 1733 (Sosa record 1152). He is the father of Moshé Moïse Encaoua, Rabbi, born in 1758 in Talmasan and deceased in 1820 in Rabat.

29.2 The Rabat branch and its connections with Oran

Meyer Encaoua (1842–1904), husband of Nedjma Darmon; Myriam Encaoua (born 1873 in Rabat); Joseph Encaoua (born 1875 in Salé, deceased 1948 in Rabat); Haïm Encaoua (born 1913 in Salé, deceased 2001 in Dimona, Israël).

29.3 Genealogical lessons

The family's presence in Tlemcen is very probably earlier than 1733: rabbinic sources make it possible to trace the presence of a Rav Ephraïm Encaoua in Tlemcen back at least to the 15th century.
